Vengatech has developed an Add-In
for MS Excel to do a variety of calculations
associated with the application of Differential Producing devices such
as Orifice Plates and Venturis to measure Flow Rate. These type of flow
meters are still widely used in the Process Industry to measure the flow
rate of gases, vapors, steam, and liquids.
Based on the principles as described in the very well known "Flow
Measurement Engineering Handbook" written by R W Miller,
the calculations make provision for a variety of DP devices, including
the Orifice with Corner Taps, Orifice with Flange Taps,
Orifice with D & D/2 Taps, Integral Orifice, and the
Venturi. The calculations are primarily aimed at calculating
the Device Bore to produce a desired Differential Pressure at a selected
flow rate, but can also do the calculations in reverse to calculate Flow
Rate or Differential Pressure.
One of the key factors when doing calculations with Differential
Producers for applications with gas flow measurement or steam flow
measurement, is to enter an accurate estimation of the Density at
flowing conditions. The Vengatech DP-FlowCal Excel Add-In
includes the functionality to calculate the density of natural gases, as
well as steam, at different flowing temperatures and pressures. For the
gas density calculation, it uses the trusted Redlich-Kwong
method for any natural gas that the user knows the Critical Pressure,
Critical Temperature, and Molecular Weight of. For Steam Density, it
uses an accurate polynomial formula.
The Add-In is available in two versions:
DP-FlowCal-SI does calculations in SI
units, and the user can select between kPa and mmWG for the Differential
Pressure, and for Flow Rate between kg/H, m3/H, Nm3/H (15 deg. C and
101.3kPa as reference), SCM/H (0 deg. C and 101.3kPa as reference), and
liters/H.
DP-FlowCal-US (Coming
soon) does calculations in U.S.
units, and the user can select Inches Water for the
Differential Pressure, and for Flow Rate between Pound-mass per Hour,
Cubic foot per Hour, and U.S. gallon per Hour.
The Vengatech DP-FlowCal Excel Add-In is
supplied with a Calculation Sheet Template for Excel.
Users can customize the Calculation Sheet Template with their own Logo
image. The Add-In expects certain inputs at certain cells in the
worksheet, and deliver calculation results to certain destination cells.
The rest of the cells can be customized as desired by the users.

examples with the Add-In menus and interaction windows. An example
calculation sheet in PDF format is also available from the
